Advances in communication, tracking, processing and sensing technologies are boosting the deployment of context-aware personalized services and are laying the basis for monitoring and surveillance solutions improving the safety of citizens. However, they pose a serious risk on user privacy rights. The collection of personal and contextual data and their disclosure to various infrastructure operators and service providers may turn out as a serious obstacle for the practical deployment of innovative services, either due to contradictions to the legal requirements or simply due to mistrust of the users.
The project aims to define technical solutions to support the introduction of new mobile/ubiquitous services by addressing the related privacy issues. The goal is to minimize and control the amount of personal information made available to the involved organizations, in order for the users to benefit of services without worrying about dissemination and improper use of their personal data. To that respect, the project will develop a technical realization of a distributed unit of trust which protects the personal data during their lifecycle, enforcing the privacy legislation.
