The MAXI project aims in the specification, design and implementation of a high speed Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) supporting multiservice applications. At a transmission speed of 155 Mbit/s the MAN node is designed with the objective to accommodate multirate traffic stemming from data, voice and multimedia applications, over distances of up to 25 kilometers.
